🗣️🔎 Qualitative & Mixed-Methods Data Analysis
Welcome to Qualitative & Mixed-Methods Data Analysis, a practical course for researchers working with interviews, focus groups, open-ended questionnaires, observations, documents, and studies that combine qualitative and quantitative evidence.
The course guides learners through the process of preparing qualitative data, coding meaningful information, developing categories and themes, interpreting qualitative findings, and presenting evidence using appropriate participant quotations. It also introduces the integration of qualitative and quantitative findings in mixed-methods research.
The course emphasizes that qualitative analysis is more than simply reporting what participants said. Learners will develop the ability to identify patterns, construct meaningful themes, interpret findings, and connect those findings to research objectives and existing literature.
For mixed-methods studies, learners will also explore how quantitative and qualitative findings can be compared to determine whether they converge, complement one another, or diverge. This is consistent with the GDG manual’s guidance on thematic analysis, qualitative reporting, and mixed-methods integration.
📘 What Learners Will Explore:
- Understanding qualitative research data
- Preparing qualitative data for analysis
- Interview and focus-group transcription
- Organizing observation notes
- Organizing documentary data

🧠 Qualitative Analysis in Action:
- Critical Reading: Identify meaningful information within qualitative data.
- Coding: Transform raw responses into organized analytical units.
- Thematic Thinking: Identify patterns and develop meaningful themes.
- Interpretation: Explain what findings mean in relation to the research objectives.
- Integration: Connect qualitative and quantitative evidence in mixed-methods research.
🎯 By the End of This Course, You Will Be Able To:
- Prepare qualitative data for analysis.
- Transcribe and organize interview data.
- Code qualitative information systematically.
- Develop categories and themes.
- Conduct thematic analysis.
- Apply selected qualitative analysis approaches.
- Present themes and sub-themes.
- Use participant quotations appropriately.
- Interpret qualitative findings.
- Establish strategies for research trustworthiness.
- Explain major mixed-methods integration concepts.
- Compare quantitative and qualitative findings.
- Identify convergence, complementarity, and divergence.
- Present qualitative and mixed-methods findings clearly.
📝 Practical Analysis Workshop
Learners will work with a sample interview, open-ended questionnaire, observation, or documentary dataset. They will practice coding the data, developing categories and themes, selecting supporting quotations, and writing an interpretation linked to research objectives.
Learners conducting mixed-methods research will additionally practice bringing quantitative and qualitative findings together to produce a more comprehensive interpretation.
